Scholarships



GIA offers scholarships for its gemmology, jewellery and design programmes, courses and lab classes.

The application process is currently closed. The next scholarship application period begins February 1, 2018.

U.S. SCHOLARSHIPS

(Available ONLY for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents)

Absolute Brilliance Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for Distance Education eLearning course, programme or lab class. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Andrew Sarosi Memorial Scholarship Fund
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for any on campus course or Distance Education eLearning course, programme or lab class. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Bert Krashes Scholarships
Award maximum: Full tuition
Awarded for the Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme. One is awarded for the on-campus programme and one for the Distance Education eLearning Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme which includes three required lab classes - Diamond Grading, Colored Stone Grading, and Gem Identification. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

CJA Peter Hess Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for any educational course or programme. Recipient must be a resident of California and a California Jewelers Association member, be related to a CJA member, or be willing to join CJA if awarded this scholarship. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

ColorMasters Scholarships
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for Distance Education eLearning programme courses. Preference will be given to applicants employed by a jewellery store that carries ColorMasters products.

Dr. Peter Bancroft Scholarship
Award maximum: $5,000 (£3,300)
Awarded for any On Campus or Distance education eLearning course or programme. Applicants must reside in North San Diego County. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Dr Geoffrey Smith Scholarship
Award maximum: $500 (£328)
One scholarship available for any Distance Education eLearning course or programme. To qualify, applicant must have previously participated in a GIA GemKids Junior Gemologist class.

Eunice Miles Scholarships
Award maximum: Full tuition
Two scholarships available. One for the on campus Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme and one for the Distance Education eLearning Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme which includes three required lab classes - Diamond Grading, Colored Stone Grading, and Gem Identification. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

George W. Juno Memorial Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for any Distance Education eLearning gemmology courses.

GIA Scholarship Fund for U.S. Veterans
Award maximum: $3,000
Awarded for Distance Education eLearning courses, programmes or lab classes. Open to US military veterans, including reservists and National Guard personnel. To qualify, applicants must include proof of US military service. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

GIA Scholarship – Distance Education eLearning
Award maximum: $4,000 (£2680)
Awarded for any Distance Education eLearning course. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

GIA Scholarship – Lab Classes (Carlsbad and New York locations only)
Award maximum: $2,500 (£1,650)
Awarded for lab classes. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.

GIA Scholarship – On Campus
Award maximum: $23,000
Awarded for on campus programmes including Graduate Gemologist (GG), Jewelry Design & Technology (JDT), Graduate Jeweler (GJ), Comprehensive CAD/CAM for Jewelry and Jewelry Design.

GIA Scholarship – San Diego County Resident
Award maximum: $2,000 (£1200)
Awarded for any course or programme. Applicants must reside in San Diego County. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Golden Gate Alumni Chapter Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,500 (£984)
Awarded for any course or programme. Applicants must be a northern California resident with a ZipCode of 93921-93923, 93940-93944 or 93400-96999. (Lab class in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Kurt Wayne Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,000 (£600)
Awarded for the on campus Graduate Jeweler (GJ) programme.

Mikimoto Scholarships
Award maximum: $915 (£613)
Awarded for the Distance Education eLearning Graduate Pearls Diploma programme. (Lab class in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Morris Hanauer Scholarship
Award maximum: $600 (£396)
Awarded for any Distance Education gemmology course. (Lab class in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

North Texas GIA Alumni Association Scholarship
Award maximum: $1,500 (£984)
Awarded for any on campus or Distance Education eLearning course, programme or lab class. Preference will be given to applicants who reside within the following Texas zip codes: 75000-75799, 76000-76999 and 76900-79799. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Ray Glynn Scholarship
Award maximum: $500 (£328)
Awarded for any Distance Education eLearning gemmology course. Applicant must be a legal resident of the state of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana or Washington.

Richard T. Liddicoat Scholarships
Award maximum: $22,000 (£13,000)
Awarded for the Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme: one for the on campus Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme and one for the Distance Education eLearning Graduate Gemmologist (GG) programme which includes three required lab classes - Diamond Grading, Colored Stone Grading and Gem Identification. (Lab classes in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Rio Grande Scholarship
Award maximum: $19,260 (£13,026)
Awarded for the on campus Graduate Jeweler (GJ) programme. Applicants must reside in the United States.

Tiffany & Co. Scholarships
Award maximum: $10,000 (£6,600)
Awarded for any gemmology programme.

William Goldberg Diamond Corp. Scholarship
Award maximum: $10,000 (£6,600)
Awarded for any on campus gemmology programme.

Zoe Bromberg Scholarship
Award maximum: $2,000 (£1200)
Awarded for classes that fulfill the American Gem Society certification requirements: Accredited Jewelry Professional programme and the Diamond Grading lab class. (Lab class in Carlsbad or New York ONLY)

Tawfic Farah Memorial Scholarship – GIA Hong Kong for 2017
Award maximum: Full tuition
Awarded for the on campus Graduate Gemologist (GG) programme at GIA's campus in Hong Kong. Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens whose country of residence is outside the U.S.

GIA Scholarship – International Distance Education eLearning Courses
Award maximum: US $4,000 (£2680)
Awarded to use for tuition of any Distance Education eLearning courses in the Graduate Gemmologist (GG) diploma. Does not include lab classes. Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. Courses available in English only.

GIA Scholarship – International Distance Education eLearning Courses
Award maximum: US $4,000 (£2680)
Awarded to use for tuition of any Distance Education eLearning courses in the Graduate Gemmologist (GG) diploma. Does not include lab classes. Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens living outside the U.S. Courses available in English only.

GIA Scholarship – Botswana
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for the Diamond Grading Lab Class at GIA’s Botswana facility. Applicants must be non-US citizens whose country of residence is outside the US.

GIA Scholarship – Hong Kong
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for on campus programmes at GIA’s Hong Kong campus. Applicants must be non-US citizens whose country of residence is outside the US.

GIA Scholarship – India
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for on campus programmes at GIA’s India campuses. Applicants must be non-US citizens whose country of residence is outside the US.

GIA Scholarship – London
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for on campus programmes at GIA’s London campus. Applicants must be non-US citizens whose country of residence is outside the US.

GIA Scholarship – Middle East
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for on campus programmes at GIA’s Middle East branch located in Dubai. Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens whose country of residence is outside the U.S.

GIA Scholarship – Taiwan
Award maximum: US $ - Varies
Awarded for on campus programmes at GIA’s Taiwan campus. Applicants must be non-US citizens whose country of residence is outside the US.

GIA Scholarship – Thailand
