Gems for Pantone Colours Spring/Summer 2015

Pantone Article Hero
When Pantone announces its colours for the year and season, the fashion world takes notice. So does the jewellery industry.

We looked for interesting gems that matched Pantone’s Colour of the Year (Marsala) and the other gemstones in the Spring/Summer family. We've also gone a step further and followed Pantone’s lead by identifying gems that “pair well with” the primary colours of choice.

We’ve done the research. Now get ready to use our finds in your gemmological work and jewellery creations.

Marsala

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, described it as a “hearty yet stylish tone”, that “embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness.” Gem connoisseurs can rejoice. There is a wealth of gems that mirror Marsala.

Scuba Blue

One of Pantone’s Spring/Summer 2015 colours is Scuba Blue – which “offers a feeling of escape that is reminiscent of a tropical ocean”. It is a soothing hue that conjures lazy days spent on secluded beaches. We dove into gemmological waters to find matching gemstones.

Lucite Green

Fresh…cool….clarifying – that’s how Pantone describes Lucite Green. It’s a paler shade of green that’s soothing to the spirit. Chrysoprase, tourmaline and tsavorite are some gemstones that capture this gentler hue.

Classic Blue

Called the “anchor of the Spring/Summer 2015 palette”, Classic Blue is said by Pantone to create calmness and to evoke the sea. A number of gemstones mirror the colours of the ocean. Sapphire is a familiar one; benitoite and apatite are two less-familiar ones.

Tangerine

Pantone says Tangerine is “spontaneous”, “energising” and “friendly”. The gem world is filled with beautiful options that fit the description. These stunning stones make for colourful centre stones in statement pieces.
