Some of the world's largest and most valuable diamonds, such as the Cullinan or Lesotho Promise, exhibit a distinct set of physical characteristics that have led scientists to regard them as separate from other, more common diamonds. Learn more about the discovery that reveals how these special diamonds form at extraordinary depths in the Earth in the presence of molten liquid metal.
Significant progress has been achieved in synthetic gem diamonds. Melee diamonds produced using HPHT technology in the Chinese mainland have attracted a lot of attention in the trade. In this presentation, we will review the synthetic technologies, current status of synthetic gem diamonds and the technologies developed for both screening and identification.

Systemizing Quality Assurance for Fine Jewelry Using GIA Benchmarking

Friday, March 5
Free Seminar: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Fine jewelry quality assurance is a fairly common practice within manufacturing organizations, but when jewelry fails during normal wear, it reduces consumer confidence and ultimately hurts industry growth. GIA Quality Assurance Benchmarks provide a common language and understanding of product expectations. They serve as a systemized method of communication between all aspects of design, manufacturing, retail and consumers of jewelry.
