GIA Show Service Laboratory

GIA is the world’s most trusted name in diamond grading and gem identification, and the GIA Show Service Laboratory brings the laboratory directly to industry events. Each Show Service Laboratory provides the same GIA expertise and standards with convenient access at trade shows around the world. On-site processing by GIA gemologists provides you with colored stone identification and origin services so you can conduct business quickly, accurately and conveniently during these gem and jewelry shows:

Submitting Stones 

To submit items to the Show Service Laboratory, here’s what you’ll need:

  • A signed GIA Client Agreement, either new or already on file with GIA. The Client Agreement form is available online or at the GIA Show Service Laboratory counter

  • Your business card

  • Your government-issued photo ID

  • Insurance value or declared value of each item

  • The name of the mineral species or variety of each item (if known)

  • Carat weight of each item

When submitting or picking up stones on behalf of your company, be sure that you are on the GIA laboratory account as an authorized representative or a principal of the company. If you are not already on the account, have a principal of the company (owner/co-owner, president, vice-president, CEO, director or manager) provide a letter in writing on letterhead stationery with your account number, instructing GIA to add you as an authorized representative. The principal of the company should date and sign the letter with their name and title. You can fax the letter of authorization to GIA at +1 760 603 1814 in advance of the show to save time, or bring it with you to the GIA Show Service Laboratory counter when you submit your colored stones.

Report Services Offered

GIA Show Service Laboratory offers report services for colored stones only. GIA reports for colored stones confirm the gemstone’s identity and characteristics through a full gemological examination. The reports available at the Show Service Laboratory are:

  • Identification Report: Identifies and describes a material and lists detectable treatments. Available for any polished, loose or mounted material. 

  • Identification and Origin Report: Offers the same information as an identification report, and includes geographic origin. Available for polished, loose or mounted natural ruby, sapphire and emerald; and at select shows, Paraíba tourmaline and red spinel.

Service Time

Stones are tested on a first-come, first-served basis. The service time to complete your order can vary depending on when you submit your item, ranging from 24 hours at the beginning of the event to 96 hours or more as the show progresses. 

Service time may be extended at some shows if the report service is not completed. These stones will be sent to a GIA laboratory location to complete the service, and shipped back to you after the show ends. 

If the Show Service Laboratory has reached maximum capacity and service time cannot be extended, you will be notified immediately.                

Pick Up and Payment

When your service is completed, you will be notified by phone, email or text to pick up your stones and temporary reports. Final reports will be mailed within 2 to 3 weeks. 

Client accounts cannot be billed, so payment must be made when the service is completed. Payment methods vary at each event and may include one or more of the following: cash, credit card or wire transfer.
