London Chapter: My Love of Jewels with Andrew Prince
Wednesday, June 28, 2017
London, United Kingdom
Join the London chapter for a presentation by jewelry enthusiast and designer Andrew Prince on how jewels have enhanced his life.
Prince is known for creating some of the finest crystal jewellery in the world – from wedding tiaras, combs and bands, to crystal earrings and bracelets. Over the years, he has built up a loyal clientele ranging from stars of stage and screen, royalty, couture houses and institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. He has designed pieces for celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Shirley Bassey; the films “Mrs. Henderson Presents,” starring Judy Dench, and “The Young Victoria,” starring Emily Blunt and Miranda Richardson; and the television series Downton Abbey, for the characters played by Maggie Smith, Shirley Maclaine, Elizabeth McGovern and Michelle Dockery.
Prince has had a passion for jewellery since he was a child, collecting small pink and purple pearls from muscles he gathered near Loch Foyle, as well as volcanic rocks from Giants Causeway. In 1977, when he was 6 years old, his parents visited the first Fabergé exhibition at the V&A and brought the catalogue home. He was captivated not only by the design of the pieces, “but by the way Fabergé used hard stones to create objects of simple beauty.”
