GIA to Present Two Free Seminars on Pearl History and Value Factors during the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair

Free show seminar on Nov. 5 and 6

BANGKOK – Oct. 21, 2016 – GIA instructor Panissara Navasamakkarn will present two free half-hour seminars on the history and value factors of pearls on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center during the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair 2016. Representatives from GIA will also be available at booth A101 during the show, Nov. 4-7, to answer questions about education programs and laboratory services. 
Diving into the fascinating and historic world of pearls, the brief presentations will review pearl formation, the predominant types of pearls found in the market and GIA’s 7 Pearl Value Factors™ (size, shape, color, luster, surface quality, nacre quality and matching) for evaluating pearl quality. There will also be a practical and informative lesson on pearl care and cleaning guidelines.
Navasamakkarn is an instructor at GIA’s campus in Bangkok, and teaches the Graduate Diamonds program as well as Gem Identification and Colored Stone Grading lab classes. Prior to becoming an instructor, she worked as a diamond grader in GIA’s laboratory. Navasamakkarn holds a bachelor’s degree in science (geology) from Chulalongkorn University and is a GIA Graduate Gemologist.
The presentations, which are free and open to show attendees, will be held on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 from 2:30 to 3 p.m. in the Seminar Room at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center. Representatives from GIA in Thailand will be at booth A101 Nov. 4-7 during show hours to meet with prospective students and answer questions about the Institute.
