Open classrooms featuring gemology and jewelry design lessons, as well as demonstrations of GIA’s eLearning courses, will also be available throughout the day.

“Gem and jewelry enthusiasts in London are encouraged to join us to learn more about these small treasures coveted by so many throughout the world,” said Edward Johnson, director of GIA in London. “As a U.K. Registered Charity and a global public benefit organization, we’re dedicated to ensuring the public trust and our annual Open Day is a fantastic opportunity to educate the gem- and jewelry-buying public.”

GIA is considered a global leader in gem education and has been entrusted with evaluating many of the world’s most famous diamonds – including the Hope, the Steinmetz Pink and the Taylor-Burton – as well as many of the diamonds seen at auction today. The 84-year old Institute is the creator of the famous 4Cs of diamond quality (Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat weight) and the International Diamond Grading System™.

Open Day will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on June 12 at GIA’s London campus, 104 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LA. Anyone with an interest in gems and jewelry is welcome.
