Institute to host free seminars and more on June 13

LONDON – May 22, 2014 – Gem and jewellery enthusiasts from across London will have the rare opportunity to see where some of the world’s top jewellery designers, retailers and manufacturers got their start during the eighth annual GIA Open Day on Friday, June 13 from noon to 6 p.m. The events – all free of charge – include gemstone seminars and interactive demonstrations.

“As a global public benefit organisation and a U.K. Registered Charity, GIA is committed  to educating the gem- and jewellery-buying public,” said Edward Johnson, director of GIA in London. “Everyone with a passion for gems and jewellery is encouraged to stop by our Open Day to expand their gem knowledge, learn about education programmes and find out how many successful professionals began their careers.”

Presentations on gemmology, diamond quality factors, emeralds, rubies and sapphires, and pearls will complement demonstrations of GIA’s eLearning distance education programmes. Open classrooms featuring interactive gemmology and design lessons will also be available throughout the day. A comprehensive schedule of events can be found on the website. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is considered a global leader in gem education and has been entrusted with evaluating many of the world’s most famous diamonds – including the Hope, the Steinmetz Pink and the Taylor-Burton – as well as many of the diamonds seen at auction today.

Open Day will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on June 13 at GIA’s London campus, 104 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LA. Anyone with an interest in gems and jewellery is welcome. RSVP by phone to +44 (0) 207 813 4321 or contact us.
