Distinguished gem and jewelry pros speak with job seekers, July 28

NEW YORK – June 19, 2014 – On the heels of last year’s successful GIA New York Jewelry Career Fair, which connected 44 gem and jewelry companies with more than 800 aspiring professionals, the Institute has announced a not-to-miss opening panel for its July 28 event at the Jacob Javits Center. The leading industry event is free for job seekers and open to the public; anyone interested in attending is urged to RSVP prior to the event.

The career fair will begin with a panel of industry leaders discussing “Job Success in Today’s Market” moderated by Susan Jacques, president and CEO of GIA and featuring Mercedes Abramo, president and CEO of Cartier North America; Ashley Chan of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers; Andrea Hansen, partner of Luxe Intelligence and president of the Women’s Jewelry Association; Douglas K. Hucker, CEO of AGTA; and Steven Lagos, founder and chief creative director of LAGOS Jewelry. The panelists tell the stories of their unique journeys to success and offer practical advice for aspiring gem and jewelry professionals.

“GIA’s New York Jewelry Career Fair is a singular opportunity to hear from some of the most distinguished and successful luminaries in our industry right in the heart of one of the world’s leading gem and jewelry centers,” said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice president and chief marketing officer, and co-founder of the GIA Jewelry Career Fair. “We encourage everyone with an interest in jewelry – whether you’re a seasoned pro, a newcomer to the trade or a jewelry lover – to come out and see firsthand how vast the opportunities in our industry really are.”

Aspiring jewelry professionals – including those in retail, design and manufacturing – will be able to meet with dozens of job recruiters and spend one-on-one time with volunteer career-coaches.

GIA’s New York Jewelry Career Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 28 at the Javits Center during the JA New York show. Recruiting will occur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by JA New York. For more information, contact us
