Staff and students donate toys, supplies and money to Casa de Amparo
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2013 – As part of its annual Holiday Gift Drive, GIA (Gemological Institute of America) employees and students in Carlsbad got into the spirit of the season and donated nearly 300 toys and more than $2,000 to support Casa de Amparo, a San Diego nonprofit organization focused on treating and preventing child abuse and neglect.Since 1996, the GIA Holiday Gift Drive has supported a San Diego-based charity each year. Items donated to Casa de Amparo this year include bicycles, scooters, art supplies, baby items, hygiene and beauty products, dish sets, a variety of toys for boys and girls and much more.
“Our students and staff embraced this year’s donation drive through their generous contributions,” said Susan Jacques, GIA’s president and CEO. “We hope that this will help to make the holiday season shine a bit brighter for these children.”
Since 1978, Casa de Amparo, or “ Home of Protection,” supports those affected by and at risk of child abuse and neglect, through a range of programs and services that promote healing, growth and healthy relationships. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serves children, young adults and families throughout San Diego County with program locations in Oceanside and San Marcos.
“We are so grateful for GIA’s ongoing generosity in helping to fulfill holiday wish lists for over 300 children and young adults affected by or at-risk of child abuse or neglect," said Jasmine Shafik, public relations coordinator at Casa de Amparo. "GIA’s contribution is truly helping make happier homes for all our Casa Kids throughout the year."
