GIA EXHIBITS
Zoning in on Liddicoatite
See GIA’s amazing tourmaline exhibit to fully appreciate liddicoatite tourmaline’s unrivaled variety of colors and intricate zonation. You can visually track the growth and coloration of the crystals by viewing slices of the calcium-rich lithium tourmaline discovered in central Madagascar.
Liddicoatite was recognized as a new mineral species in 1977, named in honor of Richard T. Liddicoat (1918–2001), President of GIA, in honor of his enormous contribution to gemological knowledge and professionalism. This year, GIA celebrates the 100th anniversary of Richard T. Liddicoat’s birth.
History of Crystallography at the GIA Library
As you enter the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, see GIA’s display about the history of crystallography. The exhibit, presented by the Richard T. Liddicoat Library and Information Center at GIA, explores crystallography history through books, mineral specimens and crystal models.
