T30. Gemological Research in the 21st Century – Gem Minerals and Localities
Twelve different talks will take place, and five different posters will be displayed on the topic of Gemological Research in the 21st Century: Gem Minerals and Localities. Presenters will discuss diverse aspects of gems, including exploration, formation conditions, properties, compositions, treatments, identification, diamond and its mineral inclusions and their geological implications.
Poster sessions may be viewed on Wednesday, September 25, in the North Building, Hall AB, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The authors will be present from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to discuss their work.
Presentations will take place in the North Building, Room 132ABC, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. Moderators are Jim Shigley, Ph.D., distinguished research fellow, GIA and Wuyi Wang, Ph.D., vice president of research and development, GIA.

Join GIA Alumni for “Research & Cocktails: Latest News from the GIA Laboratory” at the Heard Museum. Guests will have access to a private, after-hours tour of the museum, followed by an update on GIA research delivered by Dr. Jim Shigley and a reception.
Registration and tickets are required. All interested may participate. GSA Meeting registration is not required to attend.
