GSA 2016
Sept. 25 - 28, 2016
Colorado Convention Center
700 14th Street, Denver, CO 80202
The 2016 annual meeting of the Geological Society of America (GSA) is returning to Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. Recent discoveries and research findings in the geosciences will be shared and presented in a variety of sessions, field trips and other events. GIA, represented by several of its scientists and gem experts, will participate in the technical and poster sessions and in the trade show exhibition.
Monday afternoon's technical session on Sept. 26, "Gemological Research in the 21st Century: Characterization, Exploration, and Geological Significance of Diamonds and Other Gem Minerals," will be moderated by GIA’s Dr. James E. Shigley, Distinguished Research Fellow; Dona Dirlam, director of the Richard T. Liddicoat Gemological Library and Information Center; and Dr. Wuyi Wang, director of research and development for GIA.
The 13 oral presentations scheduled for the afternoon session will include research on gem exploration, documenting conditions of gem formation, characterizing the properties of gems and improving the means of their identification.
Following this same gemological theme, six poster presentations will be on view in Exhibit Hall E/F on Sept. 27. The authors of these posters will be present from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to answer questions on their research.
