Golden Gate Chapter: Art Deco Jewels-Cartier & Tiffany with Shelly Sergent
Tuesday, March 7, 2017
7:15 p.m.
San Francisco, CA
Join us for a fun evening of decadent eye candy!
Shelly Sergent will discuss the history of Tiffany and Cartier during their Art Deco periods and review two pieces in particular: a 1920 Cartier Paris House 56 carat diamond bandeau set (the only one to still exist in its entirety, fully authenticated by Cartier) and a 1923 Tiffany 12 carat black opal and diamond brooch. She will also bring an item for show and tell, or as Sergent likes to call it, "hands-on play time."
Sergent has spent more than 30 years in the jewelry industry. She realized her passion for fine gems, design and first-class client services when, at age 16, she was a seasonal gift wrap associate for Zales. Today, Sergent is lead curator for the “Somewhere In The Rainbow” collection, which bring hands-on education, understanding and appreciation of fine colored gems and artisan-crafted jewelry to museums, retail stores and educational facilities dedicated to appreciating the rarity, beauty and value of gems and master artisans' works.
Sergent has presented and exhibited extensively, including at The Smithsonian Natural History Museum, The Albuquerque Natural History Museum, The Georgia Tellus Museum, and many events for gemologists and appraisers. She was a presenter for the 100-year Gem-A celebration in London, is an education specialist for JTV and writes a monthly blog for JTV online customers.
Sergent and “Somewhere In The Rainbow” are members of AGTA, AGS, WJA, Gem-A Great Britain and JSA.
