Presenters: Dr. Richard S.K. Lee and Mark R. Cullinan

Join the Shanghai Chapter for a double lecture on "The Art & Science of Reading Rough Jadeite" by Dr. Richard S.K. Lee and "The Legacy of the Cullinan Diamond & Update on Diamond Mining" by Mark R. Cullinan.

The family of Dr. Richard S.K. Lee is widely regarded as one of the prominent fei cui (jadeite jade) families in the world. His late grandfather and father were mine owners in Myanmar, who along with Richard all served as consultants to Myanmar’s much heralded, government-run Gems Emporia. Well-versed in all areas of the jade industry, Richard, a GIA Graduate Gemologist®, is highly experienced in the mysterious world of jadeite rough reading. In this lecture, he will share the value of this exclusive, specialized trade with us.

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mark R. Cullinan studied to excel in finance and world-class cricket, but fate wheeled him back into his family trade where he has worked as a field prospector, polished and rough diamond grader, as well as the director of the family’s diamond mining company. His great-grandfather, Sir Thomas Cullinan, discovered the historic Cullinan Diamond in 1905, and Mark, carrying that iconic family name, will look to continue the legacy by telling the tales of this world wonder. He will also provide the audience with updates on the current state of the diamond mining industry.

The lecture will be in English with Chinese interpretation.

Coffee and refreshments will be offered at the event. Networking opportunity available.
