  • Egg-stravaganza 

    Opening March 2012
    Location: GIA Headquarters, Carlsbad, California

    This unique gem and mineral collection will showcase 850 egg-shaped pieces, collected over 40 years and carved by Master Lapidarist Dieter Jerusalem, using traditional cutting techniques he learned in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Each piece is cut and polished to resemble a perfectly formed hen’s egg, about 58mm high These precious gems and decorative minerals are from the finest localities in the world and include Idar-Oberstein agates; pink tourmaline from Pala, California, U.S.A.; Brazilian morganite and aquamarine; green beryl from Madagascar; Nigerian rutilated quartz; Canadian native silver in matrix; jadeite from Switzerland; Australian variscite and much more, as well as phenomenal gemstones, and several jaspers, agates, and quartz with unusual inclusions.

      The Jerusalem Egg Collection is one of the world's finest collections of mineral eggs. Many of the minerals each egg is made of are no longer available due to exhausted deposits or mine closings.
