    An exhibit of breathtaking jewelry, gems and minerals that brings to life the Institute’s groundbreaking role in gemological education and research.

  • The Balboa Park Carousel Egg 

    Through July 2009
    Location: GIA Headquarters, Carlsbad, California

    An artistically intricate, bejeweled miniature replica of the Balboa Park Carousel in San Diego, California. The hand-carved carousel animals, lights, trimmings, coloring and other detailed features are exact reproductions. The Fabergé-like wonder plays a repertoire of 20 songs from the late 1890s. Commissioned by Barry and Ann Marfleet from J. Grahl Design; created by Jim Grahl, Christian Eric, Beth Eiler-Wong, Phil Roberts and Charles Holt.
