Federal Grants and Student Loans

  Federal Grants

  • Federal Pell Grant – Federal Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)– The FSEOG program is administered directly by the financial aid office. FSEOGs are awarded to students who display financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree

Federal Direct Student Loans
Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans are federal student loans offered by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) to help eligible students cover the cost of higher education

  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loan - Available to qualified undergraduate students with financial need, and can be awarded up to $3,033.00
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan - Available to undergraduate and graduate students; there is no requirement to demonstrate financial need, and can be awarded up to $8,233.00 for independent students, or up to $4,766.00 for dependent students
  • Federal Direct Parent Plus Loan – Available to eligible parents for undergraduate students through schools participating in the Direct Loan Program. The maximum Parent PLUS loan amount can be up to the cost of attendance at GIA minus any other financial assistance your child receives

Private Educational Student Loan
Private Educational Student Loans help bridge the gap between the actual cost of your education and the limited amount eligible to borrow for GIA programs. Private loans are offered by private lenders and there are no federal forms to complete. Students should not supplement the Federal Direct Student Loan with a Private Educational Student Loan
