Volunteering at GIA is a wonderful way to spend your day and get an insider’s look into some of the most beautiful objects in the world. As a GIA volunteer, you’ll play an indispensable role in fulfilling our mission: educating the public about precious objects that are cherished around the world.
You don’t need to be a gem or jewelry expert to volunteer at GIA. We’ll train you so you can give tours to visitors, explain what makes gems and jewelry so special, and share your knowledge with an appreciative audience. You’ll help with our GemKids™ program, which introduces children to the world of gems.
You can volunteer just one or two days a month, though we require a minimum of 50 hours per year. You can volunteer to lead tours or assist with the GIA GemKids program.
As a docent, you’ll be an ambassador for the Institute. You’ll be responsible for:
- Welcoming guests to GIA
- Guiding museum visitors through the campus and Museum Gallery
- Assisting with the GIA GemKids program - a fun hands-on class for elementary school children, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
People giving back time and effort to their community is what sustains a community.
