GIA’s Bangkok laboratory examined the internal and spectroscopic features of 120 cultured pearl samples, all stated to be non-bead-cultured pearls of “Tahitian” origin. Most showed spectral features that suggest they were produced by the Pinctada margaritifera mollusk, though some were bead-cultured pearls were mixed in with the samples.
