Sapphire and Ruby Mining

GIA field gemologist Vincent Pardieu joins a small team of miners as they wash the ground for sapphire and ruby at a secondary deposit in Pailin.

River Mining in Pailin, Cambodia

Pardieu visits one of two main rivers in Cambodia where local miners collect garnet, zircon, ruby, sapphire, and sometimes gold from the sand. Many of them mine the river during the dry season to earn additional income.
