You can also drop off your colored stones at the GIA Show Service Laboratory, conveniently open a day before the show starts. Here’s a peek at what to expect.

GIA SHOW SERVICE LABORATORY

GIA will offer quick, convenient access to gem identification and origin identification services for colored stones during the show. Drop off your gemstones in room Palm G, Level 3 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino beginning June 4.

June 4-7: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Submit and Pick Up)
June 8: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Pick Up Only)

The following reports services will be available:

• GIA Colored Stone Identification Reports for ruby, sapphire, emerald, alexandrite, tourmaline, spinel, jade and all other colored stones
• GIA Colored Stone Identification and Origin Reports for ruby, sapphire, emerald, Paraíba tourmaline and red spinel

Temporary reports will be printed on site, with permanent reports sent after the show.

Report services for diamond and pearls will not be available.

GIA will offer two educational seminars at Tradewinds E/F on the Pool Level of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Tuition for each is $225. Previous gemological training and/or experience is recommended and pre-registration is required. Colored Gemstone Inclusions

Inclusions are an unending source of fascination for gem professionals. In this seminar, you’ll use our lab equipment to explore the interiors of specially-chosen rubies, sapphires, emeralds and other colored gemstones and gain insight into what a gem’s internal characteristics can tell you about how and where it formed, and whether it’s treated. Through lecture and hands-on practice, you’ll get an up-close look at gems from new sources, learn to recognize specific types of inclusions, and understand their significance for laboratory gemologists in helping determine geologic origin, and indicating potential treatment.

Identifying Synthetic Diamonds

The possibility of undisclosed synthetic diamonds being inadvertently sold to consumers is a matter of great concern in the gem and jewelry industry. Through a dynamic presentation and a hands-on lab, both led by GIA instructors and staff, this seminar will present information on HPHT and CVD-grown synthetic diamonds and how to separate them from natural diamond.

Telling the Digital Story of a Diamond: GIA M2M^™
 
After years of development, GIA is excited to introduce a service that gives consumers a new way to learn their diamonds’ history: GIA M2M. A digital storytelling platform and app, M2M provides a close look into all the chapters of a diamond’s story—from the mine, through the cutting process, and to the market. In this presentation, GIA Vice President of Laboratory Operations, Matt Crimmin, will share more about M2M and how you may be able to get involved.

GIA Mounted Gem Testing Device

Later this year GIA will introduce for sale an easy-to-operate, sophisticated desktop instrument to reliably identify mounted and unmounted natural diamonds, separating them from all simulants and from diamonds that may be synthetic or treated. The new instrument will be priced to be accessible to the trade and is the latest in a series of instruments and services from GIA that address concerns in the trade about the possibility of undisclosed synthetic or treated diamonds in the supply chain.

Laboratory Services

Visit the booth to register as a client for laboratory services to submit diamonds, colored stones and pearls at any one of the 12 locations worldwide. GIA staff will be on hand to explain new services and the existing digital and over-the-counter report services designed to support the gem and jewelry industry with the confidence and knowledge of over 85 years of gemological research, education and impartial gem identification.

Retailer Support Program

Educate your customers about diamonds, the 4Cs and GIA grading reports by participating in the Retailer Support Program. By accessing educational materials, web apps and point of sale aids available from GIA, your customers will understand more about diamonds and the 4Cs. You can also sign up for the Retailer Lookup, an online listing that allows customers worldwide to find local stores that sell GIA-graded diamonds or have GIA-trained staff. Visit the booth to find out more about how you can make the most of this program and the free resources available.

A Symphony in Gemstones

You’ll be amazed by the detail of these delicate life-like gem carvings on display at GIA’s booth. The carved gems with 14K gold adorned strings and hardware are part of a suite of miniature musical instruments commissioned by the late Art Sexauer. Master carvers Lothar Herrmann and David Hudson of Idar-Oberstein carved these amazing works of art from various gemstones including tourmaline, turquoise, lapis lazuli and black onyx.

Synthetic Diamonds Display

Synthetic diamonds are a topic of great interest and have become more accessible in the jewelry industry. Colorless and colored crystals up to several carats in size, and cut stones up to about two carats, are being produced. GIA’s laboratory can identify all known synthetic diamonds. The Institute will display a variety of samples – including large colorless and colored rough HPHT, large colorless and colored faceted HPHT, rough CVD, faceted CVD, rough HPHT melee, and faceted HPHT melee diamonds –alongside natural diamonds at its booth L99 during the show.
