Twin Cities-Minnesota Chapter: Gem ID & Treatments Workshop

The Gem ID & Treatments Workshop, relevant for beginners to industry veterans, will cover the following topics:

  • Refractometer bright-line technique
  • Fluorescence: Long wave, short wave, blue laser
  • Magnetic responsiveness
  • Visual gemology
  • Detecting color & clarity treatments
  • Hydrostatic weighing for SG

Guests are encouraged to bring their microscope, but it is not mandatory.

Bill Korst has been involved in virtually all phases of the jewelry industry for the past 46 years. He was first certified as an appraiser as a senior member ASA in 1981 and then as a CGA AGS in 1984. Over the past ten years, he has been involved as a certified Advanced Valuation Specialist with the Appraisers International Society (AIS), a global organization with alumni and members in 7 countries.


This workshop is free of charge to MN GIA Alumni Chapter 2020 Members.
For all others, the event fee is $50 with pre-registration and $55 at the door.
Beverages and desserts are included.
