Presenter: Roland Schluessel

How do past and current trends, as well as stable and variable quality parameters, affect pricing of spinel, tourmaline, aquamarine and garnet? Roland Schluessel, FGA, DGemG, will walk you through these factors and explain how the evaluation of colored gemstones is linked to offer and demand, as well as knowledge.

Born in Switzerland, Schluessel studied gemology in Idar-Oberstein, Germany and London, where he was awarded the Rayner Prize in 1985. He was senior director of the gemstone and jewelry department of a prominent jewelry and watch company in Switzerland, and a member of its board of directors. Schluessel is the co-owner of Pillar & Stone International, a wholesale gemstone company located in San Francisco that specializes in fine gemstones and jadeite.
