My GIA diamond report does not include identification of the country of origin. Does that mean my diamond was not sourced responsibly?

While traceability is becoming more important, including this data has not always been feasible. The ability to identify country of origin through the GIA Diamond Origin service on a polished diamond requires GIA to analyse the diamond in rough form first, and therefore this service cannot be applied to diamonds that were mined, cut and polished before the programme began. This should not cause concern, as regulations and controls in the industry – such as Kimberley Process Certification – help to ensure that only diamonds mined in accordance with regulatory measures end up in jewellery sold to consumers.
