Lecture Series
The GIA Museum hosts lectures at the Carlsbad, California campus presented by speakers from the gem and jewelry industry.
The 2008 lecture series, themed “Facets of GIA,” showcased the subject specialties of GIA staff members:
Brendan Laurs, editor of Gems & Gemology, spoke on Paraíba-type tourmaline from Mozambique.
John King, technical director of the GIA Laboratory in New York, spoke on colored diamonds.
Mark Mauthner, assistant curator of the GIA Museum, spoke on gold.
John Koivula, chief gemologist, West Coast Identification Services, spoke on gemstone inclusion research.
