GIA Career Search Engine Goes Global

CARLSBAD, Calif., - Aug. 19, 2008 – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has enhanced its Career Search Engine so it now includes international career opportunities posted by companies from various countries. This online service represents the largest free online employment database in the jewelry industry.

Currently, eight different companies representing 13 countries are posting job opportunities on the Career Search Engine, including Canada, Europe, India, Italy, Taiwan, and Thailand. This online tool is accessible from the GIA Web site and is designed to bring together employers and professionally trained students and alumni.

Dani Oliver, GIA Career Services manager said, “The jewelry industry has truly become a global village and we identified a need for both employers and job seekers worldwide to have a centralized career resource. GIA’s Career Search Engine helps them find each other in a global industry, bringing international recruiters and job seekers together in one user-friendly online community.”

Michael Arnstein of The Natural Sapphire Company has found over 50 percent of his employees through the GIA Career Search Engine. Arnstein said, “Though our industry is small compared to other industries, GIA has the best trained and motivated graduates, and now they are easier to find with the Career Search Engine. It’s a professional resource for these graduates.”

According to Oliver, to date, over 11,500 searches for international jobs have been conducted on the Career Search Engine. International employers have reported that they have also been receiving responses from job seekers who reside in that country. Recent improvements to the service allow users to easily search job listings by country, job type, company name, and a variety of other useful criteria.  The job database currently holds over 274 active job listings.

Brittany Parrott, who is a G.G. from Canada, found her experience with the Career Search Engine to be a positive one. She said, “As a job seeker, I found the service extremely helpful as I ended up finding a great position as a design consultant for a Canadian-based company. The service is accessible, user friendly and effective – I found exactly what I was looking for using the Career Search Engine.”

The GIA Career Search Engine is a free service to employers, students and job seekers and is accessible online at www.gia.edu/jobsearch/. Employers with jobs to post through this free service are able to post online at, www.gia.edu/careers/4084/job_posting.cfm.
