GIA to Host ‘Open Day’ During London Jewellery Week
Lectures, tours and demonstrations on June 10
CARLSBAD, Calif. – May 24, 2011 – GIA (Gemological Institute of America) announced today that it will host an “Open Day” on June 10 at the London campus to commemorate London Jewellery Week, a celebration of the city’s prominent position in the world of jewelry design, production and retail.
GIA is a “prestige member” of London Jewellery Week, which will take place June 6-12 in more than 100 venues across the city. The festivities will include special collection launches, exhibitions, receptions, seminars and fashion shows that showcase London’s diverse jewelry scene.
GIA Open Day, a free one-day event open to the public, will feature lectures on topics such as gemology, diamonds and colored stones to promote a better understanding of jewelry, and help the trade sell it more ethically and efficiently. Demonstrations of GIA’s eLearning program and tours of the building will also be available. Staff members will be on site to answer questions about gemstones and the Institute.
“This is GIA London’s fifth annual summer Open Day and the fourth time it will be held in conjunction with London Jewellery Week,” said Edward Johnson, GIA London director. “We are proud to contribute to the ongoing renaissance in the U.K. jewelry sector and to lend GIA's expertise to the U.K. jewelry trade.”
GIA Open Day will be held from 12 to 6 p.m. on June 10 at the London campus, 104 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LA. Anyone interested in gems and jewelry is welcome. RSVP is not required; however, it is recommended that those planning to attend send an email notification to info@gialondon.co.uk.
