GIA Expert to Provide Diamond Seminar in Shanghai
Dr. Wuyi Wang will focus on treatments, synthetics
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Nov. 3, 2011 – GIA’s (Gemological Institute of America) Dr. Wuyi Wang, director of Research and Development, will provide a free seminar for the trade on diamond treatments and synthetics on Nov. 22 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Wang has more than 20 years of expertise in diamond geochemistry and the treatments of diamond and other gem material. He has a doctorate in geology from the University of Tsukuba in Japan and a bachelor’s degree in geology from Beijing University in China. He is widely published in gemological and geological publications, including GIA’s Gems & Gemology (G&G), Journal of Gemmology, American Mineralogist, and Earth and Planetary Science Letters.
His presentation will cover:
- Major diamond color treatment techniques, including irradiation with or without annealing, High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) treatment and multiple-method treatments
- The main analytical techniques and identification features to differentiate natural counterparts
- An update on synthetic gemstones and diamonds, including Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and HPHT synthetics
Wang has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Richard T. Liddicoat and American Gem Society Awards, as well as the Dr. Edward J. Gubelin Most Valuable Article Award from G&G.
Wang will also present private similar seminars to Shanghai Diamond Exchange members and the faculty and staff at the Tongji University.
