GIA Thailand’s Experts to Present Diamond Lecture
CARLSBAD, Calif. – May 21, 2009 – The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand will present a “Focus on Diamonds” lecture at the 24th Gemstone Gathering on May 27 at the Tawana Hotel in Bangkok.
The lecture will be given by four GIA specialists, including Nicholas Sturman, supervisor of Pearl Identification; Anchalee Udomkunnatham, manager of Diamond Education; Jitlapit Thanachakaphad, staff Gemologist; and Pairach Nalinthrangkurn, deputy coordinator. These gemological experts will highlight:
• GIA’s Diamond Cut Grade for round brilliant diamonds
• The GIA Laboratory procedures applied to a stone submitted for a grading report
• The processes a stone goes through to confirm its identity or determine whether it has been treated, if it fails the initial pre-screening process
• Lasers and their application to diamonds
“This will be a well-rounded lecture on GIA’s processes and standards of grading diamonds from each of the experts’ perspectives,” said Kenneth Scarratt, managing director of GIA Southeast Asia and director of the GIA Laboratory in Bangkok.
The 24th GIA Gemstone Gathering is complimentary and will be held May 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Murano Room on the second floor of the Tawana Hotel, 80 Surawongse Road, Bangkok.
