Diamond Mosaic Celebrates Symposium
Volume 15-Issue 4-Fall 2006

Helene Fortunoff, chairman of GIA's Board of Governors, introduced Jorge Brusa – a Brazilian diamond dealer, publisher of Diamond News and creator of Diamond Craft diamond mosaics – at the sponsors and speakers' luncheon.

Brusa presented a commemorative diamond mosaic of the Symposium logo, constructed of 5,460 diamonds with a total weight of 77.5 carats, to the Institute. The framed mosaic is 4 square inches and contains 52.5 carats of natural colored diamonds and 25 carats of color-treated diamonds. The center diamonds also fluoresce in the pattern of "GIA" under a black light (see photo).

Diamond Craft mosaics are created by arranging melee diamonds table-down on a piece of glass that is placed over an image. The faceted, fancy-color diamonds used in each mosaic must be of equal depth.
