Plan Your Course Schedule Early
Volume 15-Issue 4-Fall 2006

By Emily Stegman

If you're interested in becoming a part of the gem and jewelry industry, pick up a copy of GIA's 2007 Education Catalog, which features everything you need to know about enrolling, attending and learning from the Institute.

The catalog includes program and course descriptions, tuition rates, information about On Campus and Distance Education courses, a list of GIA contacts and a 2007 admission application. Duncan Pay, director of Course Development, said one goal for the new catalog was to present the Institute's educational offerings in three categories: Gemology, Jewelry Manufacturing Arts and the School of Business. Presenting these three main areas of study allows prospective students to better track where their interest lies, he said.

"We solicited feedback from our Admissions department and instructor staff – those who are in direct contact with current and prospective students – as we designed the 2007 catalog," Pay said. "As a result, we've made some changes to address frequently asked questions and help clear up common misconceptions students have about how GIA functions."

Brook Ellis, vice president of Education, said the new catalog is also designed to showcase the student experience at GIA, both in and out of the classroom.

"We want people to know that GIA is invested in the quality of the student experience and I think the new catalog captures that in the pictures and testimonials of students," Ellis said.
