Gemstone, Book Donated for Future Reference
Volume 15-Issue 2-Spring 2006

Appraiser Joseph W. Tenhagen recently gifted this 78.40-ct. sphalerite and a signed copy of Joel Arem's Gems and Jewelry (Bantam Books, ©1975) to the GIA Museum. The book's cover features an enlarged photo of the sphalerite, which originates from Spain. GIA In-Kind Gifts Director Patricia Syvrud said the gemstone's appearance on the cover gives the donation added historical value. "We're especially appreciative that Joe recognized GIA as the perfect archive for this beautiful stone and book," she said.

"I have the utmost respect for the Institute," said Tenhagen, president of Miami-based Joseph W. Tenhagen Gemstones, Inc. "I feel this donation may bring future gemological students a better understanding and appreciation of the inherent beauty that gemstones possess."
