2006 Career Fairs Set
Volume 15-Issue 2-Spring 2006

Looking for a job in the gem and jewelry industry? Then you won't want to miss the industry's two largest recruiting events: GIA's Jewelry Career Fairs in New York and California.

This is the Institute's 16th year of holding a career fair specifically tailored to the gem and jewelry industry. A record number attended both events last year, where more than 2,000 job seekers and close to 100 companies participated.

Job seekers acquire contacts, career development information and industry knowledge through seminars, career coaching sessions, workshops and résumé reviews.

Employers say Career Fair offers a concentrated audience of highly trained potential employees who are passionate about gems and jewelry.

"If you're looking to enter the fine jewelry market, this is the place to start," said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice president of Marketing and Public Relations and creator of Career Fair.

GIA continues to hear reports from those who found the career of their dreams. Jessica Kohoutek, G.G., is producing a $250,000 necklace to enter in a design competition through her new employer, fine jewelry retailer Emerson & Farrar.

Career Fair was founded by GIA and The Jewelers 24 Karat Club of Southern California. The VNU Jewelry Group is the prime sponsor for the New York Career Fair, and the JCK Publishing Group and The Jewelers 24 Karat Club of Southern California are the prime sponsors for the Carlsbad event.
