GIA President William E. Boyajian traveled to Windhoek, Namibia, in late June to attend the inauguration ceremony of a new cutting and polishing plant run by LLD Diamond Namibia Pty Ltd. This was a seminal moment for the diamond industry in Africa, said Boyajian, pictured with Lev Leviev, CEO of LLD, because most diamonds are not cut and polished in the country from which they are mined. “The government gains from the value that is added to their natural resources and the boost in employment,” Boyajian said. “Ultimately, their goal is to improve the quality of life for their people. Everyone wins in this scenario: the people, the government and the Leviev Group.”
