Supporter Avi Nathanel to be inducted into 2005 League of Honor

Fancy Collection, a leading manufacturer and distributor of fancy cut diamonds, has donated $100,000 to GIA’s Endowment for diamond research. Company President Avi Nathanel will be inducted into the Institute’s League of Honor next year.
“Fancy Collection donated $100,000 because we believe in the GIA mission to ensure the public’s trust in the gem and jewelry industry,” he said. “Those who are part of the League of Honor represent only quality individuals who support this mission and I am honored to join this group.”
Nathanel started Fancy Collection more than 20 years ago in Tel Aviv. It is now based in Antwerp and specializes in 0.70 ct.–5 ct. fancy cut diamonds and caters to high-end jewelers in Geneva, Paris, London, Rome and Athens.
Nathanel believes in sharing his knowledge of diamonds. He will participate in the Couture Diamond Leader-ship Conference in New York City, Oct. 13-14. He’s also taken it upon himself over the years to educate those in the industry who may not be aware of the work GIA’s Gem Laboratory does in addition to grading diamonds.
“I’ve come across quite a few people who don’t know what’s going on in the lab,” he said. “I try to help whenever I can and explain that GIA does tremendous research on treatments and synthetics – research to help make sure the future of the industry is protected.”
Nathanel has also hosted receptions for GIA representatives when they’ve visited Tel Aviv.
“I feel it is important to be involved with GIA since it is the authority in research,” Nathanel said. “No other organization has had the consistent show of authority like GIA.”
Fancy Collection’s gift will be invested in the GIA Endowment Fund, which puts it closer to reaching its $75 million goal to ensure the Institute’s education and research programs will be sustained indefinitely.
“We are especially pleased and grateful that Avi has made such a significant commitment to support our diamond research. He has been an ardent supporter and friend of GIA for many years,” said Jane Lynch, director of GIA’s Institute Relations. “He is indeed a welcome addition to our prestigious League of Honor.”
