Cast Your Ballot, We're Listening!
Volume 13, Issue 4 - Fall 2004

I live with two teenagers and a dog, and sometimes wonder if I’m just talking to myself half the time. OK, most of the time. Some days I feel like the only time anyone pays attention to my thoughts and opinions is at work. My husband often feels the same way. Is anyone listening?

Communication. We all know how important it is to any relationship, but does that mean we are any good at it? In communication sessions I’ve attended, there’s lots of talk about bridging, or commenting on what one person says, to keep the conversation going back and forth.

Building conversations makes everyone feel a part of the exchange. It means you need to be a good listener, conversationalist and know how to bridge that exchange with comments or a positive nod to keep the interaction flowing.

We all appreciate having our opinions be heard and counted. That’s why I want you to know the Alumni Association is waiting to hear from you, and, more importantly, is going to listen.

This is your chance to be heard: Cast your vote for the Most Valuable Volunteers of the year. You may already have someone in mind. Think about who has listened to you. Which of your volunteers has acted on the Alumni’s behalf or taken the initiatives others haven’t? Who has been your best communicator?

Ballot forms are available by going to www.gia.edu and clicking on “Alumni Association.” Awards will be presented during our annual Alumni Awards ceremony during the GIA Goes Country Alumni Dance Party in Tucson next year.

You can make a difference in someone’s life when you recognize their efforts on the national level. I encourage you to give someone credit where it is due.

And remember, if you have any comments or questions about the Alumni Association, please e-mail me at teefam@ix.netcom.com. I’ll listen.
