Stuart Overlin joined Gems & Gemology in 1997 and was named associate editor in 2002. Prior to joining the G&G staff, Stuart served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for five years. He sailed to the Far East, the Persian Gulf, and Africa aboard the USS Tripoli in 1994 and on the USS Peleliu in 1996.

Stuart is a native of Paducah, Kentucky. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. His interests include literature and a variety of sports.
