About the Cover

Assembling a suite of precisely matched stones for fine jewelry is extremely difficult. The lead article in this issue traces the creation of a peridot, diamond, and platinum jewelry suite from the peridot deposit in the Himalaya Mountains of Pakistan to the manufacture of the pieces at a New York atelier. Shown here are the earrings, ring, bracelet, and necklace, which were custom designed and created by Van Cleef & Arpels. The suite comprises 54 peridots ranging from 3.57 to 18.30 ct, for a total weight of 350.40 ct. The custom-cut Pakistani peridots were provided by Fine Gems International, Helena, Montana. The diamonds were supplied by Van Cleef & Arpels. Photo © GIA and Harold & Erica Van Pelt.
