Gem News highlight: New exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History


This Victorian-era brooch, mounted with two cabochon garnets, 35 rose-cut diamonds, and several pearls and half pearls, is among the pieces that will be displayed in the new Gem Room at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland, Ohio. New Exhibits at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. November 1 marked the opening of the Reinberger Hall of Earth and Planetary Exploration. This multi-sensory, permanent hall integrates earth science and planetary geology. Some of the thematic sections include Ores and Mining, Geology Beneath Your Feet, Rocks and Minerals, and the Gem Room. The Jeptha Homer Wade II Gem Room will open in the spring of 1998; this exhibit will showcase a permanent collection of gems, jewels (see, e.g., figure 15), and mineral specimens.
