In GIA’s Jewelry Business Management (J.B.M.) diploma program, you gain valuable knowledge and insight into the unique and competitive world of the jewelry business. This course provides an overview of fundamental business management concepts as they apply to the jewelry industry. Study various sections of jewelry management such as retail, sales and wholesale. Uncover the different levels and responsibility of management. Examine effective and successful management, leadership, and communication styles.

In this course, see how everyday transactions, when properly analyzed and recorded, determine what financial statements show. Learn to prepare entries, journals, and ledgers to support all aspects of business transactions. Discover how to read financial statements and use them to determine the most profitable products, maintain efficient levels of gemstone inventory, and understand what the major cost drivers are for the business in general. Analyze the effects of political systems, monopolies, diamond and colored stone supplies, and the pricing of gem materials and precious metals on the industry. U.S. Business Law provides a comprehensive overview of the complex body of judicial decisions, statutes and regulatory rules that provide the legal framework under which all businesses operating in the United States must adhere to. The emphasis is focused on providing students with a general understanding of the U.S. legal system and with the ability to recognize and analyze legal issues from a businessperson’s perspective. Because the jewelry industry is unique, special focus will be given to laws, regulations and legal issues specific to the jewelry industry.

Learn to identify costs such as manufacturing and non-manufacturing, labor, overhead, direct and indirect, and variable and fixed. Elective course for Jewelry Business Management Diploma
This course enables students to integrate previous coursework and use knowledge gained, values learned, and skills developed to demonstrate their mastery of all subjects studied. Strategic Management is an intensive experience in critical analysis, creative thinking, and problem solving. It challenges you to address and critically examine established assumptions and reach beyond familiar cultures as well as orthodox or traditional approaches and perspectives. Each student is expected to prepare as a course project a management plan for a jewelry firm that will be presented to and critiqued by the campus community.

Elective course for Jewelry Business Management Diploma
If you are transitioning, returning or currently working in the jewelry industry, this course will provide you with the industry-specific business knowledge to become and remain successful. You will gain an overview of the past, present and future ‘woman’ working in the jewelry industry, while examining tactics for taking initiatives, achieving professional goals and creating vision in the workplace. You will explore ways in which to resolve and approach work-related issues as well as establish strategies and solutions. In addition, you will learn new and efficient strategies pertinent to leading, managing and networking with others in the workplace. By the end of the course, you will have motivation, confidence, and a powerful understanding of business principles in the gem and jewelry industry.
