At Home Convenience, On Campus Curriculum
Gemology
My GIA is available to you 24/7. Any time, day or night, you can log in to My GIA to e-mail your Distance Education instructor, enroll in a class, update your address – and of course – complete your lesson assignments. It’s a simple process. You receive your course material in the mail, and each lesson ends with a questionnaire. Once you’ve read the lesson, you log in to My GIA and enter your answers. With the exception of the Gem Identification course, it’s all multiple choice. Immediately after you enter your last answer and hit the “submit” button – you receive your results. If you miss a question, you’re directed to specific course material and pages to review. Then, print out your completed questionnaires and use them as study guides for your supervised final exam. Or, if you prefer, you can always e-mail, fax, or mail your completed assignments to GIA.
School of Business
Enroll in any or all of GIA’s Jewelry Business Management courses and you use the same textbooks and cover the same material that’s taught on campus. The difference is, your classroom is wherever you are. Participate in discussions, submit assignments, and correspond with your professor – all online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Practice with Gemstones
If you’re working toward your Graduate Gemologist diploma, the Gem Identification course requires practical gemstone work. GIA has a special gem lending procedure so when you’re enrolled in Gem Identification, you’re doing just that – identifying gemstones – just as you would if you were on campus.
Hands-On Lab Classes
Lab classes are offered at each one of GIA’s campus locations, and in various cities throughout the United States. Graduate diploma programs require the completion of Lab classes. These practical hands-on classes complement your Distance Education coursework and help put into practice what you learned on paper.
Student Workroom
GIA Student Workrooms give you affordable access to all the equipment and gemstones you need to complete the practical requirements of your Distance Education Gem Identification course. This self-study room is available to students who may need to access equipment and gemstones to enhance their identification skills. And if you have a question, a GIA instructor is always on hand – to lend a hand. You can also arrange to take a supervised exam at a Student Workroom. GIA alumni can also use the workroom to refresh their grading and identification skills after successfully completing their courses. These workrooms are offered on campus in Carlsbad, New York, Los Angeles, and are also available throughout the country.
