GIA Positions

Job Title: Manager, Global Logistics
Department: Operations
City: Carlsbad, CA

Reports To: Director, New York Operations

Primary Functions:

Manage the efficient flow of stones between all GIA Laboratories to minimize turnaround time and maximize grading efficiency and manage the Lab's procurement and inventory (report forms, etc.) processes.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree required and 5-7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel to international and domestic locations as needed up to 50% of the time.

Proven leadership experience.

Ability to develop and motivate a team.

Understand and measure global logistics metrics.

Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.

Ability to provide and support a vision and direction.

Quick thinking and easily adaptable to changing needs of the business.

High standards of quality control, workmanship, and attention to detail.

Experience using office machines, including copier, personal computer, printer, etc.

Computer literacy with the ability to learn new systems quickly.

Some familiarity with the gem or jewelry trade.

Responsibilities:

Develops the process for and manages the flow of stones between all GIA Labs to align and minimize turnaround times on a global basis.

Manages New York Transport Services teams, providing strategic direction to improve processes and procedures, training, and performance evaluations to develop and improve the Transport service functions.

Manages the procurement process for all key Laboratory equipment and supplies to deliver low cost and reliable delivery of equipment and supplies to all Labs.

Works closely with Director, New York Operations (and Human Resources Manager, as appropriate) to include the development, analyses and implementation of staffing, training, scheduling, and reward/recognition programs for staff.

Leads or contributes to any number of special or on-going projects that are important to business area process improvement.

Provides daily direction and communication to New York and International Transport Services employees so that stones are processed in an efficient manner.

Provides continual evaluation of processes and procedures and suggests methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to clients.

Provides performance feedback and coaching on a regular basis to Transport Services Staff.

Establishes work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic direction.

Travels internationally approximately once every two months and up to 50% of the time is spent traveling internationally as needed.

Communicates effectively, gets along with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises Transport Services Managers at New York and International GIA Lab locations. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
