Job Title: Business Analyst
Department: Operations
City: Carlsbad, CA

Reports To: Director, Operations (NY)

Primary Functions:

Reporting to the Director, NY Operations, this position uses structured analytical approaches to evaluate solutions and present recommendations to management. A key focus of this position is to identify and recommend continuous improvement of logistics processes for the Laboratory and oversee implementation of improvements.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from an accredited four-year college or university; and five years related business analysis and project management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Knowledge and appreciation of business concepts and requirements as applicable to a large global business.

Skill in the use of computerized spreadsheet, relational database, and word processing software i.e. MS Office products.

Ability to learn and query Lab's computer system.

Experience and education in project management.

Knowledge and understanding of business research principles, processes, and techniques.

Ability to process data; format and generate reports.

Ability to apply consultative and advisory skills.

Ability to develop and deliver presentations.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and energy.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work with minimal direction.

Independent thinker and problem solver, with the ability to work directly with diverse business groups, anticipate business needs and develop tools and processes in order to meet them.

Strong understanding of the needs and requirements of business customers,

Proficiency with Excel VBA and database programming languages such as Oracle PL/SQL.

Experience in developing business requirements and implementing practical business solutions.

Responsibilities:

Identifies potential opportunities for productivity improvements and cost reductions.

Identifies system requirements, produces analytical designs, develops implementations of models and validates the implementations.

Defines data requirements, gathers and validates information, applies judgment and statistical tests.

Manages change implementation.

Provides quantitative and qualitative support for recommendations by conducting and clearly explaining analyses and through capabilities in data analysis, operations research, decision analysis and modeling.

Makes recommendations and business ease for process improvements with supporting facts and analysis.

Develops insights into the impact of new business opportunities; explores, tests and implements technical and operations improvements.

Develops business processes and solutions and ensures they are reusable across the Institute.

Gathers and analyzes industry trends and develops business needs and objectives, operational procedures, and functional specifications.

Communicates effectively, gets along with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure.
