GIA Positions

Job Title: Support Services Assistant (Part-Time, Mon-Fri 5pm-11pm)
Department: GIA Laboratory
City: Carlsbad, CA

Reports To: Manager, Lab Support Services

Primary Functions:

This position provides support primarily to Weights & Measures / Inscription, as well as Inventory Control, and Report Services departments as needed.

Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Detail oriented.

Mechanical aptitude.

Basic computer and data entry skills required.

Responsibilities:

Weights & Measures / Inscription

Operates a gemological measuring device and weighs stones on an electronic scale.

Operates a laser inscription device, marks and cleans stones.

Performs simple gemological tests.

Packages stones in individual cassettes and attaches labels to identify and allow tracking of stones through the grading process.

Utilizes computer mouse, scanning devices and keyboard to capture data while operating all gemological testing devices.


Inventory Control

Transfers and tracks stones through all grading processes on the computer system.

Tracks inventory by date or priority status.

Files storage cassettes manually by date and file number.

Utilizes computer mouse, scanning devices and keyboard to enter data for each step of the grading process.


Report Services

Performs the final process step in preparing GIA Laboratory's report services.

Gathers printed reports from the generating parties and verifies their accuracy.

Collates reports by job number, and proofs for informational or form error.

Processes and laminates reports by using automated cutting and perforation machines.

Assembles finished product and forwards to Transport Services or Client Services Departments, as appropriate.

Checks printers for errors and maintains adequate supply of forms.

Communicates effectively, gets along with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure.
