Richard T. Liddicoat
Celebrating the Life and Legacy of the Father of Modern Gemology
Ask anyone who has ever visited a GIA location about what most impressed them – beyond the Institute’s gemological expertise – and it’s likely they’ll mention the culture. “Everyone was so nice, warm, helpful and respectful,” they might say.
That kind of response is a direct result and reflection of the values and example set by Richard T. Liddicoat, GIA’s leader and patriarch for more than 60 years. His style continues to influence how we do our work every day.
RTL would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on March 2. We make this an occasion to celebrate his accomplishments as a gemologist, but also to reflect on his greatest legacy – the lessons of kindness and respect he taught us every day.
